SusuanaLoves Hayao Miyazaki

Hayao Miyazaki gets more brownie points than Walt Disney…

So other day I finally watched this old animated film called “Lapita Castle in the Sky” I watched the English Version

I HAD to watch this. I watched it when I was really young and had some snippets of it in my head but never knew what it was called, all remember was this crazy steam world with a little boy and girl who were being chased. Not much to go on I know But through researching animation on a previous project I came across Castle in the Sky and I thought “that has to be it” So finally, I've watched it the other day. Its an amazing animation for its time. The hint of the meaning of the film is not as faint as Sprited away or even Princess Menanoke. It reflects on the new world crave for power technology and knowledge and neglect of home values and of earth. Well sort of any way. The Castle in she sky was once a great city, but developed harnessed all this great technology and appeared to pay the price for the greed of power and a its inhabitants are dead. It’s a really good movie, you never quite guess what’s going to happen next (except for the whole boy meets girl thing). It’s a really wonderful animation especially for its time. I put all animation against Studo Ghibli standards and that’s probably why I can only stand such a few animes. Nowadays anime lack meaning, are really lazily put together, extremely badly dubbed at times, and the story just suck or are very similar to others. The story was really deep though A Classic Example of great animation. Hayao Miyazaki is such a don and I admire his work so much.

Hayao Miyazaki born January 5, 1941 is a prominent Japanese filmmaker of many popular animated feature films. He is also a co-founder of Studio Ghibli, an animation studio and production company. He remained largely unknown to the West, until Miramax released his 1997 Princess Mononoke. By that time, his films had already enjoyed both commercial and critical success in Japan. His later film, Spirited Away, had that distinction as well, and was the first anime film to win an Academy Award.

Miyazaki's films often incorporate recurrent themes, such as humanity's relationship to nature and technology, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. Reflecting Miyazaki's feminism, the protagonists of his films are often strong, independent girls or young women; with the exceptions of The Castle of Cagliostro and Castle in the Sky, his films often depict villains to be morally ambiguous characters with redeeming qualities.

This is Studio Ghibli Collection (Trailer). The clip is in another language but you still can appreciate the art

Miyazaki's films have generally been financially successful, and this success has invited comparisons with Walt Disney. In 2006, Time Magazine voted Miyazaki one of the most influential Asians of the past 60 years. In 2005, he was named one of the Time 100 Most Influential People. Walt Disney has helped him break in to the Western market but personally I think he’s better than Walt Disney. Yeah Disney was the first main man and was apart of everyone childhoods but still. Everything that was a successful after he died really came from out side Stories that the company Disney-fied. Disney just isn’t as great as it used to be but Hayao Miyazaki work never stops amazing me.

So if you haven’t watched his stuff all ready make sure you do it!
